Welcome to Avon Gove Lacrosse! The following is a general guideline or outline of the Avon Grove Lacrosse season and FAQs about the organization:
Avon Grove Lacrosse is a member of the Chester County Lacrosse Association. Please see the following link for more information about the CCLA, http://cclalax.org/.
Seasonal dates - In general our seasonal schedule will work out as follows:
Registration for the spring season as well as Winter Skills Clinics opens in the fall prior to the spring season. Open registration typically runs from the beginning of November through mid January.
Preseason Winter Indoor Skills Clinics are offered for the U10, U12, U14 age groups and run from January through February. The clinics are typically held Saturday and Sunday afternoons (depending on the facility availability). The clinics are optional but we do recommend players attend these clinics. They are professionally run and provide the boys a significant jump on the spring season.
U8 - Start indoor practice the first weekend of March, usually held one day per week on Sunday afternoons. Outside practices will begin in April and will be two-three times per week.
U10, U12, U14 – Spring Season is generally from the end of March to early June.
Evaluations start the end of February and typically last through the second weekend of March. At that point the age groups will be split further so that practices can commence as teams. We will talk with the boys before the evaluations begin to help them understand what we are looking for. We will also explain that the evaluations are set up to place players where they can achieve success and be challenged at each skill level.
CCLA game season begins the 1st week of April and runs through May.
In season practices - There are usually two-three practices/games during the week and Saturdays.
In season positional clinics – We will offer optional specialty position clinics throughout the season, typically on Sunday afternoons.
Our annual fundraising event is the Cowplop. The funds raised are utilized to help offset registration fees, pay for clinics, fields, etc. Each player will be asked to sell tickets for the event and the packets will be handed out at opening day of the spring season. The event is typically held in Mid-May. You don’t want to miss it, is an outstanding day for the Lacrosse Community and typically held at a local Vineyard.
Uniforms – Uniforms and practice pinnies are offered for purchase at the time of registration and should arrive before our first games (in early April).
Each age group will be assigned a Board Member or Experienced Volunteer to assist the coaches with organization and to provide support. This representative also acts as a contact for parents if you have any questions or concerns that cannot be answered by your coach. The board member representative for each age group can be found on the web site here.
WE ALWAYS NEED COACHES at all age levels. No experience is required, we will teach you the game. There are a lot of very good coaches in our organization that will support you to ensure you succeed. You will be paired with an experienced coach. We have 2 or 3 coaches meetings usually scheduled in February which will give you a good head start on the game and allow you to meet the others. The higher the coach to player ratio we have, especially at the younger age groups, the better the experience is going to be for all. Please step up and help. Being an assistant coach is not a huge commitment and our season does not happen without you. If you are interested please contact Emily Cox at:
Equipment Requirements: Whether you are new to lacrosse or have several years of experience, please review the General Equipment FAQ page on the web site for necessary equipment, regulations at various age levels and just general information on helping to get your son outfitted. If you have more specific equipment questions please do not hesitate to contact one of the board members or coaches from last year. The single most important piece of equipment is the pocket in your sons stick. It should be done by a professional and we recommend Lacrosse International (ask for Brendan) in Downingtown.
